Any level of knitter may join in the adventure, but because the dyeing is tailored to each member and some of the special yarns are in limited supply, I'm afraid I have to limit participation to just 30 knitters! If you are a relatively new knitter....no worries! Each month I not only offer 2 unique designs for the yarn (one simple and one a bit more challenging) I will also post a link exclusive for members to a video walking you thru the technical aspects of the project. Because you get two new designs each month, you can choose between complexity as well as project type. So if one month you want a challenge and another month you want to keep it simple....you'll have that choice. And if one month's project is a sock, but you'd rather knit some fun wristwarmers....you'll have that choice! A month before each Yarn CSA shipment is scheduled, you'll receive an email with photos of that month's yarn, pictures of the completed projects that were designed for the yarn and photos of your color options for that month. You then choose from among the color choices that month.
Every yarn is different ...you'll enjoy everything from a 2 ply fingering to a bulky singles, from a springy cormo to a lustrous mohair. And each dye technique is going to be different....from hand painted, to kettle dyed to natural colroed fleeces. So there's a bit of lovely surprise each month...BUT...you get 2 designs for each month so you have choice in project and complexity AND you get to pick color options from among a set of choices each month. So the "surprise" is tempered by some control and input you have in picking the ultimate design and the colros. For example, you'll be able to choose between pastel or highly saturated intense colors (see photo above) for one project; pick between jewel or earth tones for another project; even choose colors you'd like me to combine in a special variegated yarn. When it comes to the hand-spun month, you can choose whether you want your yarn beaded or boucle or even an eyelash yarn made with silk from 10th generation Vermont silk worms!
The Vermont Yarn CSA will run from Aug 2010 - Mar 2011 (8 lovely little adventures to enjoy thru the knitting season) and will ship out of here the last week of each month, so you'll have a fresh new project waiting for you at the beginning of each month!
Many have emailed to inquire about partial payments. Because I'm having many of the yarns spun now and/or will be dyeing the yarns starting in July, I really need to know who is commited for planning purposes. But I hate for interested customers to miss out on this adventure, so I've added the option of dividing your payment into 2 installments. Paying the first installment now guarantees your spot among the remaining slots. Your second and final installment will be due before the second shipment (end of Sept). For those customers who have already signed up and paid in full, or for any who choose to pay in full now that I've extended the option to pay in 2 installments, I will send an additional month's project...it's not a Vermont yarn, but it is a beautiful cashmere I have that I'd love to share with you. The price of this membership does not include shipping. Shipping will be collected in August when the first Yarn CSA ships. Shipping for the 8 months will be $48 ($6/shipment) for members within the continental US. For Canada or International members, the charge will be an additional $160 (sorry, but I have to send registered now because of two delivery problems I've experienced this winter - one to Australia and one to Canada). If you live locally, of course you can save on shipping and just pick your yarn up here! I'm excited to share this special bit of Vermont with you. I look forward to making this a really unique experience for you and can't wait to get started! I know $375 is a lot to bite off, but it'll be totally worth it to treat yourself to a little luxury and an exciting knitting excursion every month this coming fall and winter.. To pay in full: $375 |
To pay in 2 installments: $190 each

This photo shows a bundle of naturally dyed yarns from last year.
So each month you'll receive your Custom Dyed Yarn, both Exclusive Pattern(s) designed especially for the yarn, and a Knitter's Sketch for that month's sojourn! The Knitter's Sketch is a narrative that will provide you a tour thru a bit of history about the particular breed of sheep (or, should I say animal since not all the yarns are sheep's wool!) and it's fiber characteristics plus some special notes & photos about either the Vermont farm that the fiber came from or about the particular dye process unique to that month's yarn. You'll feel like you're there yourself, immersed in the origin of the yarn! Each month's Sketch fits into the Vermont Journal, which we will send along with your August CSA, so at the season's end you'll have a lovely album chronicling your Vermont knitting odyssey.

It's not just that the yarns are from Vermont and custom dyed....they're also breeds you may not have knit with before. This Vermont Yarn CSA gives you a chance to experience the difference in particular breeds that you don't necessarily see in commercially available yarns at your LYS....you won't believe the hand, the luster, the spring! So jump on board & treat yourself to this this unique knitting excursion.
