Let your wool garments rest 24 hrs. between wearings and
refresh them in a steamy bathroom
Store natural fibers (yarns, fibers or garments) in a well ventilated
space so they can breathe...if you use plastic bags you risk them "sweating" in
hot weather. This can felt wool and make cellulosic fibers musty.
Clean organic dirt off wool right away as food can attract moths
and beetles which may eat the wool.
Never subject wool to bleach/ammonia- the high pH will weaken the
fiber.
Don't use vinegar on cottons & linens to clean as cellulosic fibers
are sensitive to acidic conditions.
Don't use enzyme-based laundry products on wools, mohairs or silks
as they may be broken down by the enzymes.
Lay your wool garments flat to dry. Never hang wool garments when
wet since wool fibers get weaker when wet and will tear under the
weight of the wet garment if hung.
For a food or alcohol stain, try cleaning with club soda
For a red wine, chocolate, or egg stain, rinse with cold water.
To remove glue from wool, use alcohol.
To remove butter, tar, gum or grease, sponge wool with dry cleaning
fluid.
To remove lipstick, rub your wool garment with white bread.
Don't dry clean your wools, instead, wash with Eucalan® or
Kookaburra (both available at the store) to restore the natural lanolin
in your wool.
