Vintage Baby Sweater and Bonnet

Materials: 14 oz skein of worsted weight yarn

Needles: 1 set of single point US 10 1/2 needles

Starting at neck edge, cast on 34 sts.

Rows 1&2: knit

Row 3: k3 *p2tog, yo, repeat from * ending p2tog, k3. (33 sts)

Row 4: Knit

Row 5: k3, p to last 3 sts, k3

Row 6: k3, *K in front and back of next st, k1, repeat from * ending Inc1, k3. (47 sts)

Row 7: Same as row 5.

Row 8: k3, *k2tog, repeat from * ending k4. (27 sts)

Row 9: k3, *k1, insert needle under next horizontal loop of row below (between sts) and knit this st, repeat from * ending k4. (47 sts)

Row 10: k3, *Inc 1 st in next st, k2, repeat from * ending Inc1 st, k4 (61 sts)

Rows 11,12, and 13: Repeat rows 7-9

Row 14: k4, *Inc in next st, k3, repeat from * ending Inc1, k4. (75 sts)

Rows 15,16,and 17: Repeat rows 7-9

Row 18: k4, *Inc in next st, k4, repeat from * ending Inc 1, k5. (89 sts)

Rows 19, 20, and 21: repeat rows 7-9

Row 22: k5, *Inc1 in next st, k5, repeat from * . (103 sts)

Rows 23, 24, and 25: Repeat rows 7-9

Row 26: k18 (front), Inc1 in next st, place marker, Inc1 in next st, k14 (sleeve), Inc 1 in next st, place marker, Inc1, k31 (back), inc 1, place marker, Inc1, k14 (sleeve), Inc1, place marker, Inc1, k18 (front). (111 sts)

Row 27: same as row 7

Row 28: knit. Increasing 1 on each side of markers. (119 sts)

Rows 29 and 30: repeat rows 27 and 28 once more. (127 sts)

Row 31: repeat row 7

Row 32: k22 sts, place on holder. k22 sleeve sts, leave on needle. putting remaining stittches on holder.

Sleeve: Work in Stockinette stitch for 16 rows.

Row 17: k2tog *p1, k1, p1, k2tog, repeat from * (17 sts).

Work 5 more rows in ribbing of k1,p1. Bind off. Work other sleeve to match.

Finishing Front and Back:

Attach yarn at underarm on right side of work and knit across body stitches (83 sts). Work in Stockinette Stitch for 12 rows, keeping first and last 3 stitches in garter stitch

Row 13: k3 *k2tog, repeat from * ending k4

Row 14: k3, *k1, insert needles under next horizontal loop of row below (between sts) and knit this stitch, repeat from * ending k4.

Work 4 more rows in Stockinette stitch.

Repeat rows 13 and 14 once more.

Work 4 more rows in Stockinette st.

Next row: k3 *k3tog, yo, repeat from * ending yo, k4.

Work 4 more rows Stockinette stitch.

Bind off.. Turn up hem and sew in place. sew sleeve seams.

 

Bonnet:

Cast on 14 sts. Work in stockinette stitch for 14 rows. Break off yarn.

With right side facing, pick up 12 sts on side of piece, knit across 14 sts, pick up 12 sts on other side. (38 sts)

Next Row: Purl

Knit 4 more rows in stockinette stitch.

Row 6: k1 *k2tog, repeat from * ending k1

Row 7: *k1, insert needle under next horizontal loop of row below and knit this stitch, repeat from * across ending k2.

repeat rows 2-7 two more times

Work 4 rows in stockinette stitch.

Next row: k1 *k2tog, yo, repeat from * ending k2.

work 4 row in stockinette st

bind off. sew up hem.

Pick up 40 sts along the bottom. Work in ribbing of k1,p1 for 1 row.

Next row: k1 *yo, k2tog, repeat from * ending k1.

Work one more row in ribbing.

Bind off. Run ribbon through beading of bonnet and sweater.
