Exciting New Class posted....

What better vacation could you choose to take this summer than to put your work and worries away for 5 days and come immerse yourself in an incredibly creative journey learning Orikiri & Weft Felt Fabric with inspiring Australian artist/felter Sachiko Kotaka August 2nd—6th....

I’m very excited to be able to bring Sachiko here this summer to offer what she considers her “dream come true” workshop! Ever since I saw examples of the Orikiri Felt fabric made in a workshop she offered in CT two years ago, I have been anxious to share her artistic felting expertise with you all. As Lynn said of Sachiko after her workshop with her 2 years ago, "Her passion for felting and her joy of discovery is infectious".

The two felting techniques that she has developed & will teach here, Orikiri Felt and Weft Felt,

can very effectively be used in the felting of garments, head-wear, ornamental accessories, blankets, throws, hangings, book covers, lampshades, vessels and more! Orikiri felt might be described as cutting intricate shapes from silk and hand made prefelts and inter-twining them with each other upon layers of wool fiber....each piece built from the base up & every layer adding color, texture and complexity to the resulting fabric. Weft Felt, which involves the weaving of prefelt fabrics and fibers before incorporating them into the felt fabric adds yet another dimension to the complex felt cloth created.

Just take a look at her unique and exciting pieces to see how fantastic this complex cloth of hers is!
Sachiko works intuitively, spontaneously and playfully. She is also inventive - developing new techniques, and combining different methods to achieve unique, exciting and unexpected works....she “can't help pushing the boundaries of feltmaking."

Lynn, who took Sachiko's workshop in CT a couple of years ago said this of her experience in Sachiko's class: "Sachiko helps students push their own perceived limits of felting technique and artistic expression. She is a dynamic artist who generously shares her design insight along with specific and unusual felting techniques. She'll guide you where you've never gone before in feltmaking".

So I’m happy to be able to offer Sachiko's “dream come true”….a 5 day Orikiri and Weft Felt workshop! Since her last US teaching tour, Sachiko has been continuously exploring each technique and is very excited to be able to demonstrate how to combine both techniques effectively (with other traditional felting methods).

In the workshop here, she will assist participants in creating their desired piece(s) based on their level of felting development. She will help participants create their piece(s) in either 2D or 3D; in traditional wet felt or nuno-felt….whichever medium each participant chooses to work in.

So come enjoy a truly unique and creative week of felting with Sachiko. If you don’t live in the area, we have a list of nearby hotels and campgrounds to stay here. Class size limited to 15 and registration is open now. See the class listing for more details. As with all other classes, prepayment is required to hold your spot in class.

Because of my workshop space constraints, this class will be held nearby so we'll all have our own table to work on and lots of elbow room!

Happy Knitting, felting & spinning

Jennifer
