CVM California Variegated Mutant is what CVM stands for. This breed originated when a couple of Romeldale mutants which appeared in a herd in the 1960s were selectively bred to each other. This is a unique American breed which is rather rare...since it was added to the AIBC list it must mean that less than 200 are bred annually. It is a rather long stapled, fine wool (62 count range). This particular fleece is quite fine, very clean, and is wonderful to spin. The fleece is from Muscle in Your Arm Farm here in New England. Keep your eye out in an upcoming Spin Off magazine as I believe this particular breed is being featured. The color range of this fleece is off white to fawn. As you can see from the photos below, this fleece felts well and spins up to an incredibly soft yarn that is a slightly darker color than the batts, as you'd expect. I would call it a dark oatmeal color! |
