Home > Vermont Products > Leaf Peepers Organic Yarns > Leaf Peepers Leaf Peepers This yarn is certified organic by the New Mexico Organic Commodity Commision. Tho' this fine micrometer wool is grown in New Mexico, it is processed here in Vermont where the processing is certified organic by the Vermont Organic Farmers. It is washed and spun using non-petoleum soaps and oil and no chemicals are used to mothproof, shrink-proof or remove chaff. I have then naturally dyed it here, using an assortment of indigenous (onion skins, rudbekia, bloodroot, etc) and non-indigenous (indigo, cochenile, brazilwood, logwood, annato seed, etc) natural dye materials using alum as a mordant. I even use the dye water when I'm finished to treat my alum loving plants, shrubs and trees so nothing goes to waste. This d.k. weight yarn knits at 5-5.5 sts/inch. It is a fine wool (tho' not necessarily merino) which retains a lot of bounce or elasticity in the yarn, in part because of the gentle handling of the fiber in its processing. Each 1oz dk skein as approximately 90 yards. Price: $11.99/skein Just the first 4 colors are shown now, check back by the end of September for more color choices.Price: $11.99/skReading left to right: safflower, cochenile, brazilwood, indigo over safflower |
