Akari by Noro

This lovely 26% silk, 15% viscose, 21%cotton blend yarn features 480 meters(approx 528 yds) in each "shawl" ball.

Perfect for a summer wrap or shawl, three gentle shades offer your wardrobe a range of options in a soft palette. The silk in the yarn yields a lovely drape to any shawl or garment knit with this yarn.

A smidge lighter in gauge than the popular Ito (100% wool version), this summer alternative is recommended knit atn 4-5 sts/inch on US 7-9. But you can see from the gauge swatch in the right sidebar, that it knits nicely (reading top to bottom) at 5.5 /inch on US 4; 5 sts/inch US 6 and 4.5 sts/inch on a US 8 (Chris knit the swatch, so remember that your needle size may be different - this is just so you can see that this yarn has a flexible gauge range depending on what you are making and the fabric you desire).

The two scarves shown in the right side bar were knit using just 1 ball of Akari. Both are simple garter stitch patterns and both measure approx 48" long - enough to fold it in half put it around the neck and stick the end thru the loop! But if you like longer, you could just make one and not two of them! And, of course, it would be easy enough to use a provisional cast on and make either pattern into a cowl.

Or, instead of knitting 2 scarves from 1 ball, you could knit one scarf and the pair of mitts shown in the second photo, as one of my customers did. Knit these mitts along with the first scarf and you'll get lots of practice short rowing!

Knit on a US 10, one could easily go up to a 10.5 or even maybe an 11 for a lighter garment (and your yarn would go further, too). Tho' it is not necessary - the bias nature of both of these accessories makes for a lovely drape as is.

And the wrap shown in the third photo is a free pattern that also uses just 1 hank!

Price Per Giant Ball: $44.99
