Ranco by Araucania Like Araucania's other hand dyed yarns, Ranco features a beautiful variegation that is a nice break from the self-patterning socks everybody's been doing. Ranco also offers a good range of interesting but subdued colors for the men or more conservative people in your family. Tho' this yarn is promoted by the distributor for socks, it is a perfect choice for lace shawls or lightweight garments. The shrug below has a beautiful drape on the body and it is soft and machine washable. Featuring 376 yds of 75% wool-25% poly it knits at 6 sts/in on US 3. Price per skein: $16.95 NOTE: The original tags for this yarn mistakenly indicated that the yarn must be handwashed. I machine washed the store model sock and it turned out fine...no felting or shrinking! The tag on the more recent shipments of this sock yarn indicate that machine washing on a gentle cycle is fine.
