Chaiten This 100% silk yarn has a slight texture to it. It is not bombyx silk, the lustrous pure white silk, but rather "wild" silk, or that from a genus of silk worms that isn't as picky an eater and therefore consumes leaves with tannins in them and so the silk is originally a light caramel or tan color. Although some of the weaving industry considers this silk inferior to the silk from the custivated bombyx mori silkworm, it is soft and lovely and takes dyes differently because of the underlying color. The garments are from the latest Araucania pattern book (available below). The hoodie on the left takes 5 skeins for up to a size 48" chest and the 3/4 sleeved cardi on the right takes 4 sks (2 each of 2 colors) for up to a size 40" chest. I plan on knitting up a variation on the wrap shown far right using Chaiten. I loved this simple garment two summers ago.....it could dress up a T and pair of jeans, always stayed on the shoulders, was quick to knit, etc. I just want to update the look and as soon as it's done, I'll post the pattern. I expect 1 skein will do a wrao even larger than this one...check back for the update~ 309 yds/sk 5.5 sts/inch Price: $20/sk
