Nomad Camel This handspun mongolian camel down is available in the natural caramel color shown below in the hat. It knits at 3-3.5 sts/inch and each 100 gm hank features about 110 yds per skein. Each skein gives you the name of the Mongolian spinner who created it. The camels that produce this fiber live on the steppes of Central Asia where it commonly gets to 40 - 80 degrees BELOW freezing. This cold weather causes them to produce a lovely soft down undercoat. The Mongolian nomads that shepherd these camels separate the down from the long coars hairs of the camel by hand, then wash it in mare's milk (I guess you use what you have!) and then it is hand spun by a cooperative of nomadic women.
