Silks > Qiviut & Silk Qiviut (pronounced kee-vee-oot) Qiviut (sometimes spelled with a u after the q and othertimes not) is the fine down that comes from the Alaskan muskox. It generally has a finer micrometer count than even cashmere and is as soft and light as a cloud. As you wear it, the down lofts up to create a luxuriously soft fabric that is very warm, but lightweight (the mitten below was knit in qiviut-silk blend & has been worn hard for 2 years and you can see that it has "bloomed" more than the scarf below which has just been knit and not worn yet). The yarn is also available in a blend with merino, cashmere and silk (qiviut-silk). The 100% is priced at $67/ball & the blend at $54/ball: both have 218 yds per sk. The simple lace scarf below is knit from 1 ball on US 5 needles. The pattern is free with the yarn purchase. The scarf measures 5" x 54".
