Alga Seacell...

"Viscose" is a term you see on yarn labels a lot. It actually refers to a process, rather than a specific fiber - so you can have a bamboo viscose, a rayon viscose, or, as in this case, a seacell viscose!

The type of viscose is dependent upon the nature of the fiber going into the process and in this case it is seaweed that is processed and spun via the "viscose" method to turn seaweed into yarn.

This gives the yarn a soft hand that offers a lot of drape. Not as much "sheen" as bamboo (which my customers in VT will appreciate since "shiny" doesn't go over in a big way up here!). In this yarn, it is mixed with organic cotton (65%).

Each hank offers a whopping 306 yards, so figure maybe 3-4 for a short sleeved summer top. I love a summer scarf/shawl that is knit in a cellulosic fiber - we have cool nights here on the lake or deck when a little something is perfect around the neck - so I'd also love it for a summer scarf or shawl as much as a top.

As you can see from the photos in the gallery, but you wouldn't expect by looking at the yarn in the skein, this actually knits up in a gradient!

It is recommended knit at 21 - 24 sts/4 inches on a 5 - 6 needle.

The Price per hank is $21.99
