Wednesdays June 10, 17th and 21st 5:30 - 7 p.m.
In Japanese, shibori means to "squeeze". And manipulating fabric to be squeezed in several ways is how the Japanese traditionally created the fabrics for their kimonos. There are lots of traditional patterns as well as some more modern approaches to creating patterns that we'll cover.
I'll show you a couple of basic shibori techniques and you can choose your favorite(s) to create your own design on a useful cotton market bag (which in one class a participant made into an adorable T-shirt!).
After showing you the fundamentals of the technique and several design options, you'll have time between the 1st and 2nd session to work your design and on the second night, I'll guide you thru the final pulling of the shibori threads or folding of the fabric for your pattern. In the final session, you'll experience the awe of dyeing with the traditional Japanese indigo (blue) or if you prefer a different color, I'll have a charcoal and some red hue available to choose from in a chemical dye for those who prefer that.
Class fee includes the bag and the dyes, threads, needle, etc. so you don't have to worry about gathering anything!
