Ruca - 100% cane sugar This lovely yarn was a big hit last year so I ordered it again this year in some new and different colors! It is100% sugar viscose. But don't eat it! This yarn is made from a byproduct of the sugar cane industry. Sugar cane is apparently quick growing (thank goodness for my sweet-tooth's sake) The sugar cane stalks are marinated with lime & then pressed thru mechanical rollers to extract the liquid sugar we refine for our cookies and coffee, and the remaining stalk, which used to be discarded as waste, is now being used to produce the sugar viscose fiber that is spun into yarn. By the way, this is a similar process by which viscose is made from other plant materials like tree bark. The sugar viscose is lustrous and strong and very soft. With 263 yds/skein it knits at 5.5 sts/inch on a US 4-5 needle.Perfect for a summer top, shawl, or baby set. Price per ball: $14.00
