This wonderful product is hand-dyed in Shaniko Merino wool so you can feel really good about knitting, wearing and gifting these socks!
Shaniko wool is wool is both raised and processed in environmentally friendly ways. The ranches that provide the wool are all based in the US and all agree to abide by a strict set of standards which guarantees good land management practices are used for sustainability, kind and safe sheep raising practices are followed (i.e. no mulesing) and also that workers are treated and paid fairly.
The yarn is dyed so that each sock will turn out the same and it is packaged so that if you like to knit 2 socks at once, the balls are all wound for you!
And even tho' the name of this product suggests it is just for socks, it is perfect for mittens too! In fact with a SoleMates kit you can knit a pair of average women's mittens (pick your favorite simple pattern, or have some fun as shown in the photo gallery here knitting the cuff using opposite ends of the ball for some stranded colorwork patterning) and still have enough left for a pair for a small child!
