Self Patterning Sock Yarns
Several different brands of sock yarn are available below, including the 2 newest for fall 2023, Infinity Sock and Wateroclor Sock
One ball of any of these brands will knit a pair of socks. And each of them is machine washable wool with nylon added.
In my experience, the Supersocke line of sock yarns (and there have been MANY over the years) is a really great wearing sock yarn. I have a few pairs that I only just this year relegated to the trash after at least 13 years of wearing and washing! This particular Supersocke version is Extrafine Merino, so super soft!

The second brand of self patterning sock yarns available on this page is new. Cazasocks is out of the Adriafil mill in Italy and features 4 of the most popular colors of their Knit-Col yarn. This yarn has a nice tight twist so it should wear well. It is $19.99
A new one for this fall 2023 is Infinity Sock. It is mulesing free and chlorine free and also has a really nice twist so I expect will wear well. Each ball band shows how that colorway knits up - something a little different than first two which do the typical jacquarding effect. Infinity Sock, as the ball band shows in the gallery of photos here, knits up with a series of assymetric stripes in the cuff, and a different foot, heel and toe solid color!
Watercolor Sock just arrived new for fall October 2, 2023. These four colors offer a very artistic, watercolor effect to the sock as the colors create a lovely ombre, as you can see from the photo in the gallery.
